Wild at Heart (1990)

A film by David Lynch

Lynch follows Blue Velvet with another erotic and violent tale. This one is a bizarre homage to the Wizard of Oz, with released prisoner, Sailor (Nicholas Cage), hitting the road with lover, Lula (Laura Dern), against the wishes of her wicked mother (a startling Oscar-nominated performance from Diane Ladd). They encounter some weird characters along the way, especially the creepy Bobby Peru (Willem Dafoe). It won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990.

"The picture is packed by so much deranged energy, so many bravura images, that it's hard not to be seduced by the sick wonder of it all." - Richard Corliss, Time
