The Grandmother (1970)
A film by David Lynch

Funded by a $5,000 grant from the American Film Institute, The Grandmother is an important early Lynch work. The film begins with a man and woman 'born' from the ground, followed by their son. The opening reminds of a scene in Un Chien Andalou. There is no spoken dialogue from the characters, only wails and grunts. A special part of this film is the sound - an hypnotic droning plays at times and it is appropriate. The sound is reminiscent of Eraserhead, which is not a surprise because Alan Splet did the sound editing and mixing.
